Medical Shelters for the Military

Field hospitals, mobile hospitals and portable medical shelters are essential for a rapid response to natural disasters, civil unrest, and warfare. Weatherhaven’s fabric and expandable container shelter technology, combined with our deployment experience allows us to meet the present demand for portable medical shelters from militaries and governments around the world.

Weatherhaven installations range from complete field hospitals with operating theatres, to triage centres deployed in active combat zones, and basic first aid medical clinics. Using a combination of expandable containers and fabric shelters, our medical facilities are designed to maximize functionality and redeployability.

Classification of Military Medical Facilities

Military medical facilities are generally classified as Level I through IV. While Level IV hospitals are permanent structures, Levels I through III can be portable, and are offered by Weatherhaven:

Level I – A unit medical station at battalion level that is typically staffed with a single doctor and several medical assistants. It is used for everyday medical requirements, triage, and to stabilize patients in preparation for transfer to a higher-level hospital. This medical station has no holding or operating capabilities.

Level II – A brigade-level medical facility that includes a limited holding area for patients, and room for doctors to sort and treat life-threatening cases. It provides operating capability for emergencies only.

Level III – A full-service field hospital where patients can be held and treated for up to 30 days. This hospital can include several operating theatres and enough equipment to support various medical wards, resuscitation, x-ray, medical laboratories, and more. It is defined by its operating capability, not its size. It can consist of 20 beds, 200 beds, or more.
