$130-million shelters contract Burnaby firm wins DND deal. Vancouver Province, Aug 14, 2009
Burnaby-based Weatherhaven and a partner have won a $130-million Department of National Defence contract to build 895 shelters.
About $60 million of the contract will be spent in B.C. by Weatherhaven and its local suppliers, creating 80 direct jobs in the province, the company said. Weatherhaven said it expects to build an additional manufacturing plant in the Lower Mainland to accommodate extra demand from the project. The contract with DND includes an option to buy up to 110 more shelters. Weatherhaven's partner in the contract is DEW Engineering and Development. DND is buying the shelters for use with military vehicles, Weatherhaven said.

This camp gives athletes a competitive edge since they can’t get this summer training anywhere else. Farnham Glacier is a bleak and desolate place, but the elite athletes who train there are housed in a warm and comfortable Weatherhaven camp, which is owned and operated by the Calgary Olympic Development Association (CODA). This camp sleeps and feeds up to 70 persons and has all of the amenities that these athletes need to give a top performance at the upcoming Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
