How Weatherhaven Began

Weatherhaven began in 1981 when Jim Allan’s world-class expeditionary company and Brian Johnson’s innovative construction company joined forces to create practical, comfortable, and safe solutions for remote-site living. The unique design of their portable shelters and shelter systems resulted in camps with all of the advantages of a home-base environment.

Weatherhaven initially provided shelters to customers in the expedition and mineral exploration sectors – people who had camps that were situated in remote locations and often in harsh climates.

The demand for Weatherhaven shelters led to the request for systems and services that complemented the shelter designs. These systems and services included mechanical, electrical and furnishing solutions, as well as installation. Within five years, Weatherhaven had developed a high-level portable shelter solution for clients with challenging requirements.

Weatherhaven launched itself into the camp industry and won contracts for large turnkey projects. This opened new doors, including products for the government and defense sectors that drew on our expertise in redeployable and portable shelter systems. Our clients then began asking for us to address mobility requirements for their camps and specialty projects. Our solutions proved to be cost-effective, saving money and time in transportation logistics.

Building on our skills and experience, Weatherhaven has become a major supplier of shelter systems for government, military and medical projects all over the world. Weatherhaven shelters continue to improve the standard of living, working conditions, and well-being of the people who occupy them.

Weatherhaven provides a field clinic to the Australian Defence Force.

The Australian Defence Force is doing its bit in helping victims of the Sumatran earthquake, providing medical help as recovery teams look to prevent the spread of disease.
